Light, Health and Sustainability

  • Jones Beach Energy & Nature Center Bay Parkway Wantagh, NY 11793 United States (map)

Natural light cycles condition the fitness of organic life, and are a crucial aspect of mental, physical and spiritual health. In this talk, Dr. Fischer explores the relationships of local wildlife to public health, safety, and welfare, stressing the need to give greater attention to photobiology in the ways our communities and buildings are designed.

Dr. Fischer operates The Zoological Lighting Institute, a 501 c(3) dedicated to supporting the sciences of light and life through the arts for animal welfare and wildlife conservation. Former Council Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, Dr. Fischer advocates the integration of biodiversity-loss mitigation strategies in architecture by calling attention to the importance of natural light cycles for all living things.
