Eye of the Beholder

Photo Contest 2025

In coordination with Hempstead Lake State Park, it is the aim of the Jones Beach Energy & Nature Center's 2025 Eye of the Beholder photo contest to create community engagement, inspire environmental advocacy, and promote visitation to New York State Parks.

Contest Information

Participants can submit only one photo per each month’s theme. *Note: Participants are only eligible to win once.

Participants must be at least 10 years of age.

Photos must be taken at Jones Beach State Park and/or Hempstead Lake State Park.

Photos must have been taken on or after January 1st, 2023, unless the monthly theme states otherwise.

Each month will have a different theme, information for which will become available at the start of the month.

Two winners will be chosen each month; one winner will be chosen by the Photo Contest Chairs and one winner will be selected by the public via social media.

Photos must be at least 300 pixels per inch.

Contestants can submit black and white, color photos, and scanned film photos- whatever you have, we would love to see!

Please note: Photo winners and participants may be featured in public exhibits held at the Jones Beach Energy & Nature Center and the Hempstead Lake State Park Environmental Education & Resiliency Center, both of which will open by late June.

Entering in the photo contest grants State Parks the right to reproduce, modify, publish, and publicly display the submitted photographs in print or electronic form for educational and promotional purposes without compensation.
