About the Presentation:

Climate change is a reality and under Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s leadership, New York is fighting it. Through its nation-leading climate legislation: the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), New York is implementing the most aggressive suite of policies and actions to fight climate change and transition to a just and equitable clean energy economy for all New Yorkers. Targeting 100 percent carbon-free electricity by 2040 and 85 percent reductions in statewide GHG emissions by 2050, and spearheaded through the State’s Climate Action Council, NYSERDA is working at the forefront of these initiatives to deliver: the clean electric grid of tomorrow; comfortable, affordable and safe energy efficient homes and businesses; and clean, reliable transportation solutions. In delivering benefits to New Yorkers including prioritization of benefits to Disadvantaged Communities, the CLCPA will bring jobs, a healthier New York, affordable energy, and empowerment across the State.  Focusing on offshore wind as an example of the CLCPA in action, we will discuss the game-changing potential of the State’s powerful approach to confront climate change, and the role of stakeholder engagement, education, and empowerment in delivering the CLCPA’s benefits.
