Free Event Admission / $8 Parking Fee per Vehicle*
All Ages
This event is geared toward people of the public with invisible and/or visible disabilities who are interested in birding and getting out in nature. We will be following a 0.75 mile loop trail around Jones Beach Energy & Nature Center.
The Center has binoculars available for those without.
“Birdability Week is a celebration of birders with disabilities and other health concerns, and an opportunity to share resources and ideas to help the birding community be accessible, inclusive and welcoming to everybody and every body! An annual event held in October and supported by National Audubon, it was inspired by #BlackBirdersWeek, Latino Conservation Week and Let’s Go Birding Together.” As a group, we will go around the ADA accessible trails around JBENC to ensure that folks of all abilities can access the birding wonders of Jones Beach.
Tactile Studio has a narrative written description (here) of what it is like to be a family navigating some of Jones Beach Energy & Nature Center's accessible features.
