Maintenance
Park & Rec Aide 4
Position Type: Full-time, year-round seasonal (40 hours/week)
Hours: 8:30am - 5:00pm. Weekends, evenings, and holidays included.
Salary: $18.49/hr plus eligibility for benefits (NYS Retirement Plan, NYS Health Insurance, dental and vision, and Tuition Assistance Program)
Seasonal Environmental Educator Assistant
Park & Rec Aide 5
Position Type: Full-time, summer seasonal (40 hours/week)
Hours: 8:30am - 5:00pm, Weekends, evenings, and holidays included.
Salary: $19.85/hr plus eligibility for benefits (NYS Retirement Plan, NYS Health Insurance, dental and vision, and Tuition Assistance Program)
MAINTENANCE
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate for this position must work well under pressure, be a self-starter, multitask, and possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License as a term and condition of employment.
• Experience in maintenance or horticulture preferred.
• Must have basic computer skills.
• Must have the ability to understand and carry out directions, including written instructions.
• Must be reliable, flexible, and willing to work in a team setting.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner under stressful conditions.
• The incumbent must be flexible and willing to cover holidays, and special events as required to provide operational coverage.
MAINTENANCE
JOB DUTIES
Duties include but not limited to:
• Maintain pollinator garden and playground area by weeding, planting, clearing dead plants, and organizing garden cleanup and planting events.
• Pick up or drop off items at Storehouse, Admin building, or Headquarters.
• Set up and break down tables and chairs for educational programs and events.
• Call in storm reports to Jones Beach Operations.
• Identify building maintenance needs and alert supervisor.
• Complete all required maintenance reports thoroughly and on time.
• Fill out, send, file, and follow up on work requests, stock room acquisitions, and purchasing supplies.
• Clean bathrooms, kitchen, and pantry.
• Sweep and mop floors throughout the building.
• Pick up trash around the building (both in garbage cans and on the ground).
• Keep maintenance tools clean and organized.
• Restock rags, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, garbage bags, and other items as necessary.
• Ability to read, understand and interpret written and/or verbal material and instructions.
• Ability to do simple math such as add, subtract, multiply and divide.
• Ability to work in a high-pressured, fast-paced setting.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Assist with events and be available to work various hours, including weekends.
• Load, carry, or unload material of varying weights and sizes as required.
• Perform other park-related duties as assigned.
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATOR ASSISTANT

• Must be flexible and willing to cover holidays, and special events as required to provide operational coverage.
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATOR ASSISTANT
JOB DUTIES
Duties include but not limited to:
• Conduct environmental education programs by leading interpretive walks and teaching lessons.
• Assist in marine science-based programming with partners.
• Conduct building tours as needed.
• Lead programs involving a touch tank with local aquaria.
• Assist in feedings, exercise and cleanings of animals and their tanks.
• Complete roving programs throughout Jones Beach State Park
• Assist in research, writing and producing educational and promotional materials.
• Clean and maintain facilities, equipment, and exhibits.
• Greet visitors, special guests, students, and others and provide information on the building and exhibits.
• Operate the cash register and keep track of purchases and receipts.
• Collect fees (cash, check, credit card) while maintaining accuracy at all times
• Communicate with the public in a friendly, helpful, and courteous manner in person, over the phone, and via email correspondence.
• Perform general clerical duties.
• Load, carry, or unload material of varying weights and sizes as required
• Perform other park-related duties as assigned.
